Trustee Message Winter 2020

As I write this brief note, there are only 90 days until Memorial Day, May 25, 2020.  It’s time to start gearing up for another season of making memories on our little slice of paradise. So, please mark your calendars for the NBTA member meetings on Saturday, June 27th and Saturday, September 12th.

If you have been following the LBI News Feed on our website then you know the closing of the Hands Store in North Beach Haven has been getting a lot of coverage.  Sadly, after serving the community for 70 years, the doors will be closed soon. Future plans for the site have not been released.

If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday mornings, check out Science Saturdays at the LBI Foundation for the Arts & Science in Loveladies.  The series runs until April 25th.  It’s free to members and only $5.00 for non-members.  Topics for the remainder of the series include climate issues, shellfish aquaculture, shorebirds, native plants, terrapin turtles and more.  See their website for full details

We’ll see you soon!

Trustee Message September 2019

It is hard to believe that the 2019 summer season is in the books.  We hope you had a memorable one and got to spend some time with people important to you.

At our September 7th  meeting, we heard from Jim Verhagen – aka Northside Jim – a wildlife biographer, data scientist and resident champion of LBI wildlife.  Jim shared with us his unique blend of storytelling, writing, and photography to tell the real-life stories of the wild animals and their families that make the LBI region home.  Jim’s blog is Readings from the Northside.

Special thanks to Jim and Carolyn for taking time out of their busy lives to share some of his stunning collection of rare and intimate glimpses into the lives of endangered coastal birds at their nests, and of the scientists who work with them there.

We had a good turnout for our “fall” meeting.  You can read about the meeting under NBTA Issues and Announcements.  Check our website often for updates and tell your neighbors about us.  Slightly more than one-third of North Beach homeowners are members of NBTA and with your help, we can make that grow.

Thanks for being a part of our North Beach homeowners’ community.  Have a safe and ‘short’ offseason!

Bill Walsh and Jim Verhagen

Trustee Message August 2019

Hello NBTA members –

As summer winds down, now is a good time to give a special thanks to the men and women who protect North Beach families, friends and visitors on a daily basis as we enjoy our beautiful beaches.  We’re talking about members of the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol (LBTBP). This skilled, motivated and highly trained group of professionals keep us safe while we enjoy our beautiful beaches and ocean.

This photo is a shot of the North End crew.  They guard and protect North Beach and Loveladies and rotate chairs throughout the summer.  While we play, they are constantly scanning the water for potential signs of trouble or swimmers in need of assistance.

As one of the nation’s largest beach patrols, LBTBP sets rigorous standards that exceed the requirements set by the New Jersey State Department of Health for ocean lifeguards.

So, the next time you see one of the North End crew – whose passion is to keep us safe – say hello and a great big THANK YOU!

LBTBP

Trustee Message June 2019

We held our membership meeting on June 29th at the Surf City Firehouse.  This was our first morning meeting and the time change appears to have been welcomed by our members, given we had a great turnout.  Thanks for attending.

Sadly, we received news of the passing of Chuck Perfater.  Chuck and his wife June were longtime North Beach owners and he served as a former trustee and past president of NBTA.  His leadership and support of NBTA will be greatly missed. Read more.

Mayor Mancini and Commissioner Bayard provided updates on the sewer project, lifeguards, revaluation and the topic that generated the most interest – water meters.

See the NBTA Issues and Announcements section here at our website for more info on these and other topics.

Mark your calendars for our next meeting – Saturday, September 7th, 10:00amat the Surf City Firehouse.

Have a great summer!
